Dating After Divorce: Insights from a New Divorce-Online Survey

Table Of Contents

Dating after divorce is a deeply personal journey, marked by a mix of excitement, apprehension, and challenges.

At Divorce-Online, we wanted to understand this experience better, so we surveyed 200 recently divorced individuals to uncover how they navigate the dating world.

From emotional readiness to dating app preferences and common obstacles, our findings offer a comprehensive glimpse into life after divorce.

When Do Divorcees Feel Ready to Date Again?

The timeline for jumping back into the dating world varies widely:

    • 22.1% of respondents started dating immediately after their divorce was finalised.
    • 20.1% waited 1–3 months before re-entering the dating scene.
    • On the other end of the spectrum, 6.7% waited over a year, while 32.2% haven’t started dating at all, highlighting that emotional readiness is a deeply personal process.

The Role of Dating Apps in Post-Divorce Romance

Dating apps are often the go-to for divorcees looking to meet new people. However, they come with both opportunities and frustrations:

53.7% of respondents have used dating apps, with popular platforms including:

    • Bumble (38.5%)
    • Tinder (36.3%)
    • Hinge (28.6%)
    • Match.com (23.1%)

While apps provide convenience, satisfaction levels are mixed:

    • 12.7% felt “very satisfied.”
    • 34.3% were neutral, while 16.7% were “very dissatisfied.”

As one participant noted, “I endured a lot of time wasters and fake profiles. Finding people locally and within the right age range was important to me.”

Challenges Faced by Divorcees in the Dating World

    Several key challenges stood out:

    1. Emotional Readiness:
While 24% felt ready to date immediately, another 24% weren’t yet emotionally prepared, highlighting the diverse emotional journeys of divorcees.
    2. Balancing Dating with Parenting and Work:
Single parents and busy professionals struggle to carve out time for dating. One respondent shared, “Dating as a working single parent is very tough in terms of making time for it.”
    3. Adjusting Expectations:
Some divorcees find dating apps overwhelming. As one participant reflected, “I want to find my best friend and lover, but dating apps only throw people who just want sex.”

    What the Data Tells Us

Mark Keenan, CEO of Divorce-Online, explains:
“Dating after divorce is a journey of resilience, as people look to rebuild their personal lives. These survey findings illustrate that while dating apps can open doors, they also present unique challenges, especially for those balancing family responsibilities and careers. We hope this data supports others on similar paths and encourages dating platforms to continue improving user experiences.”
